For more than 60 years, in our journal Technical Textiles/Technische Textilien we have been reporting on the most innovative and exciting field in the textile industry – and we have been doing so with expert journalistic competence in the fields of textile technology. Over the past decades, the trade journal has accompanied all structural changes in the global technical textile industry and provided orientation on the most interesting developments.

With the current issue – supplemented by the special edition nonwovensTRENDS – we are taking the next logical step, and are once again expanding our offer.

From tradition…

In 1958 "Technische Textilien" was founded in Dresden/Germany as a newsletter from the Zentralen Forschungs- und Entwicklungsstelle der Bastfaserindustrie (Central Research and Development Centre of the Bast Fibre Industry), later the Wissenschaftliches-Technisches Zentrum Technische Textilien Dresden (Scientific Technical Centre for Technical Textiles Dresden), today the Institut für Technische Textilien GmbH (Institute for Technical Textiles), Chemnitz/Germany. After German reunification in 1991, the newsletter merged with the magazine “Industrietextilien”, which had been published by the Deutscher Fachverlag GmbH (dfv media group), Frankfurt/Germany, since 1985. The editor-in-chief at the time, Hans-J. Koslowski, was in charge of the journal. From 2004, he was also editor-in-chief of “Chemical Fibers International” (CFI), and was additionally responsible for the contents of the journal. Man-made fibers are, of course, of great importance for technical textiles – after all, hardly any technical textile can do without man-made fibers.

Mr. Koslowski was also instrumental in founding the Techtextil trade fair, which has been held in Frankfurt/Germany since 1986 and is now firmly established as the leading international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens. melliand Textilberichte, which has been in existence for 100 years and has been published by the Deutscher Fachverlag GmbH since 1993, also has a long tradition. melliand Textilberichte is also published in English (melliand International) and Chinese (melliand China). In short, with Technical Textiles/Technische Textilen and the melliand trade publications, the dfv media group publishes the world's most traditional textile-technical trade journals!

…into the future!

Claudia van Bonn, who has been editor-in-chief of all publications of the dfv media group in the area of textile technical journals since April 2009, together with fellow textile engineer Mechthild Maas, is leading the magazine Technical Textiles/Technische Textilen into the digital age. On the one hand, the rapid digital change increases the need for orientation and classification of events and, on the other, changes the reading behavior of our readers: texts that are short and to the point, and mobile readable articles are in demand.

We have expanded our online publishing services, and founded the techtextrends.com platform at the beginning of 2019: For the international textile industry, we have created an English-language platform that bundles information, technical innovations, market developments and reports from industry and companies as well as an extensive company directory. We keep you up to date on the world of technical textiles with news from Germany, Europe and the world.

In the future, the portfolio of our topics in the nonwovens segment, which continues to grow in importance, will be broadly expanded. For nonwovens in the area of technical textiles, hygiene and wipes, we now offer news from research, industry and associations – bundled in the new trade journal nonwovensTRENDS, the first edition of which is attached to this issue of Technical Textiles/Technische Textilien. nonwovensTRENDS will in future be published 5 times a year in English and German together with Technical Textiles/Technische Textilien as well as being available individually.

We, the editorial staff of Technical Textiles/Technische Textilien, prepare all current topics from the industry for you and report on the trends and developments in these exiting markets. As expert textile engineers with many years of journalistic experience, we provide in-depth information on all nonwovens-related topics. The focus is as much on nonwovens mechanical engineering as on wipes, technical textiles, the hygiene industry and processors from all relevant sectors. In addition, the new trade magazine will provide information on trade fairs and conferences.

From 2020, our new industry portal nonwovensTRENDS.com will also be launched, where current international news and researched reports on nonwovens will be published in English. The portal is complemented by a regular English-language newsletter nonwovensTRENDS.

Have we aroused your interest? We look forward to feedback, suggestions and comments about our new nonwovensTRENDS!
