Fine cotton fibers with a range between 3-5.5 µm or 1.0-2.8 dtex have good strength and absorbent capacity. This makes cotton fibers an ideal material for dry and wet wipes. There are, however, 2 reasons for the limited usage of cotton fibers in single-use nonwovens. The fiber is more expensive than viscose/polyester blends, and the properties of the natural fiber vary both regionally and from year to year.

At the Index, Trützschler Nonwovens & Man-Made Fibers GmbH, Egelsbach/Germany, will introduce new line concepts especially for the production of cotton nonwovens for the wipes and hygiene sector. These complement the proven solutions for the production of quality products from raw cotton or from comber noils, short or unbleached cotton fibers into high-value products.
Another focus is on Voith-Trützschler’s wet-laying/spunlacing (WLS) technology. Trützschler and Voith will provide information about opportunities of WLS-lines and WLS in combination with other technologies for providing consumers with eco-friendly, sustainable and affordable single-use products.
Trützschler Card Clothing GmbH, Neubulach/Germany, will present its latest development, the Supertip wire generation, at the Index, which brings card clothing to a new level of quality and profitability.
