Oerlikon
Efficient production of nonwovens

25.02.2020 From March 31 to April 3, 2020, the Nonwoven business unit of the Manmade Fibers segment of Oerlikon Management AG, Pfäffikon/Switzerland, will be showcasing market and customer-oriented solutions for hygiene, medical, filtration and other technical applications at the international trade fair for nonwovens, Index, in Geneva/ Switzerland. By offering stand-alone systems with one or several positions, ‘plug & produce’ installations in existing systems or combinations to other technologies, customers can easily and efficiently produce new filter media using the optimized meltblown technology of Oerlikon Nonwoven. For the production of hygiene nonwovens, Oerlikon also offers the new QSR (Quality Sized Right) system.

For airlaid nonwovens made of pulp or cellulose fibers, Oerlikon Nonwoven relies on patented forming processes. These enable the homogeneous mixing of a wide variety of raw materials, with high uniformity and homogeneous fiber laydown, even for nonwovens with low basis weight. As sustainable applications in the recycling sector, the advantages of this technology are becoming increasingly important.
The Phantom technology patented by Procter & Gamble Co. (P&G), Cincinnati, OH/USA, will also be showcased. Teknoweb Materials Srl, Palazzo Pignano/Italy, Oerlikon Nonwoven’s strategic partner for hygiene products and wipes, received a worldwide exclusive license for this technology from P&G. This technology has ecological as well as performance and cost advantages compared to the processes previously known on the market. By dispensing with hydro-entanglement, subsequent drying of the material is no longer necessary. Targeted process management allows the optimal setting of the relevant product parameters such as softness, tenacity, dirt absorption and liquid absorption.
